end of summer salad

I love chopped salads, uniform vegetable jewels, mingling and popping. Knife-skills 101 come in quite handy. Here: Radish, Cucumber, Carrot, Scallion, Tomato, Tarragon, Pine Nuts, Sauteed Apples, Golden Raisins. Off camera, there was the addition of roasted red pepper and a few tortilla strips. Grilled corn painted with Mexican Chile de Naranja/Mayo, then rolled in a very fine grate of an aged cheese, with a lime. And of course, the ultimate hamburgers and cheeseburgers. I opted for pepper jack on mine. I love a fun salad bowl, and I kinda live for the fact that Cheesecake Factory now sells all their dressings.

  1. I love how you can be so passionate about (and excel at) so many different creative things… food, photography, writing (obviously), styling, etc. It really inspires me how you've managed to create such a multi-faceted career for yourself. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

  2. Hmmm I love making salads like this one. I usually have boiled egg, tomato, cauliflower, green beans, avocado with a sharp herby vinaigrette.

  3. oh yum…yum! I'm harvesting basil and making fresh pesto – peppers, for red and jalapeno jelly – and borage – to soak in my wine for courage. I've got so much mint growing that I wish I had a perpetual rum provider too – for those fresh, delicious mint beverages. Mmmmmm.

    Apples and squash are next.

  4. Oh yeah, veggies to the max! (And not just for breakfast anymore.)

And burgers!!!! (And pie and donuts and…)

  5. Stephanie – can you let me know where online I can find the beautiful "Counting Stories" book you bought – I would love to get it for my friend's daughter but can't find it anywhere! Thanks

  6. Thanks for posting all the pics of the sweet beans. It's really great to see pics of Lucas smiling so much. The 2 of Abigail drinking from the straw, the lighting (& her) are gorgeous! She really has a thing for thoses pink shoes, so cute! Oh yeah, the salad looks good too.

  7. Dear God. I am craving one hell of a salad now. That sounds absolutely delicious.

  8. i love wash-peel-chop-prepping vegetables on sunday afternoons, putting them in big plastic containers, and using them for chopped salads all week (or in omelets, or stir fries, or…)
