The grass really is never green, is it? It comes in shades of grey, mostly. We're just fooled by our individual lenses, into thinking it's green.
We should have been born leopards.

The grass is as green as you make it, where ever that may be. The color is a factor of your own sunshine.

Everyday we should do an accounting of our insecurities. Sometimes ones we defeat creep up on us and reintroduce themselves. Happened yesterday. However, the 'insecurity' you shared is not an insecurity. It's an honest acknowledgement of one's need for someone with whom one can grow intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally. We all suffer from this 'insecurity.' We are all looking for an equal. Don't give up.

It is amazing how you can capture the essence of a picture in your writing. It is likely due to being a photographer and a writer. You are able to capture everyday events that we all miss or are accustomed to that we take for granted.
Specifically, the folded dollar bill to buy a dirty water dog and pretzel, the cabs and lights, and lights on in other apartments at ungodly hours due to sleepless nights. From living in this great city and reading this, every person can picture exactly what you are writing about because it is real. We likely miss it out of daily habits or patterns. It is all about taking the time to enjoy life, seeing everything around you, and taking everything in for what it is worth.
I totally agree with friend regarding grass being as green as you make it.
I know ‘Empty Fields’ is waiting for me to ask you out for the 16th time, but I’m gonna disappoint her/him. A couple of thoughts though. One, I’m glad you’re willing to expand your horizons cuz your ‘Dude’ may not be a fellow New Yorker and then what? Two, I really think we were all put on this earth to make a difference. I’m not sure, collectively, we even realize it or look at it in that context. I guess we can’t all discover a cure for cancer or something as amazing as that. It took me 42 years, but I’ve finally figured out my purpose and how I’m going to make a difference. Another time and place for that. Three, boy can you write (sorry EF)!!!

Although you would be simply darling in overalls and a bandana, it gets boring sometimes. And it's really, really dark in the country. And no hot dog vendors. And no Broadway. And no cabs. And no 'EL'.

I have just returned home to my small-town existence in Australia after subletting an apartment at the Eastern end of 51st St, where I kidded myself for ten days that I was a New Yorker, and not an alien with a strange accent. I blended in well; the tourists were asking me for directions. ANYWAY, the point is, you could move to Wyoming or wherever (we call it 'the bush') for ten days, and make like a local, but you'll be wanting to go home to your familiar hotdog stands and the steam rising up through the grids in the sidewalk from the subway… and you'll notice, during those ten days away that yes, the grass is greener on the other side, but they still have to mow it.
Jeez, I couldn't run this blog. With all the advice and all. Hmm, well I could. Then sell the advice to poor schmucks that think there really are answers and easy ones at that. Do I hear five dollars?
Man can I echo it all. Signal signal. I am on the other end though. Wanting a powerwoman but wondering what would happen when we go head to head on a deal. Competitors and lovers? I think not. Great sex perhaps, well, until that became a competition.
Who the hell knows, ya know? I still have this idealist notion that it will spark right once. And then 7 years later it will still have a spark to run on (after a valve job and new plugs that is).
Then again we live, learn, then die and forget it all.
None the less, your writing really F'd me up. Spent like 4 hours on this site. You have managed to undo 4 years of therapy. Should I send you the bill or my phone number? Holy hell, that is one great line (filing). Okay, now this has all been worth it. I have a dark, edgy line.
I meant the advice in the comments. Really, I did.

If one was living, there wouldn't have been time to write in so much detail….
Good stuff though.

distinguishing euros is easy in santa monica: they're still wearing 80s clothes.

Distinguishing Americans from Europeans is easy.Take the average Joe from Europe, he will be wearing stylish jeans and shoes and, depending if he is from London (T shirt) or the rest of Europe (fitted shirt) at least something that will make him look half decent. The average Joe from America will be wearing, with no exception, a pair of khaki, pleated front, saggy arsed trousers, slip on shoes with a tassel on the front and a polo shirt.
I'm unavailable and I want you….but if you want me too I will need to know where the fire exit is. :)
