I prefer to neologize and call it PLAGUErism, because let's face it, it's a filthy disease distributed by hosts with minds as hollow as sewerage pipes, and lined with worthless shit of their own.
Blog Police
Bad boys, bad boys what ya gonna do, what ya gonna do when the blog police come looking for you.
Come on!!! That is just plain stupid. What kind of idiot would copy someone's blog and post it to the internet? No need to answer that, you have found that person. What a dick! Do you think that was x? He admitted that he was out to annoy you. That gives him a motive and makes him a suspect. Can you check the IP address to see what IP address x used to comment on your blog and see if it matches the one for that blog?
On a lighter note, I heard a joke the other day… If you copy one person's work, it is called plaguerism. If you copy many people's work, it is called research.
I just don't get that- what the hell?!? Does someone really have THAT pathetic of a life that they need to lift someone else's writing and use it as their own? I mean really, I have a pretty dull life and it's probably quite boring to read about, but it would never occur to me to plagiarize someone else's work.
It almost makes me feel sorry for the loser…almost. Seriously, how pathetic. The Jayson Blair thing's already been done, buddy, and it's so very 2003.
Wow! How hard would it have been for this person to have just posted "I did not write this, but I wish I did" and link to your post?
I am super curious about how you found out about this. I am shocked that this blogger, with like 6 posts total, made on to your radar (or anyone's radar for that matter).
mel
They didn't just copy you either. I think I read the Palahniuk post on Stereogum.
Brian
Don't worry Stephanie, help is on the way. Joe Biden, Jayson Blair, Doris Kearns Goodwin, and I are gathering up a posse to go kick this 80s movie, nap-loving, spelunker's ass. (Hell, he probably even copied somebody else's profile, too!)
Sincerely,
Mike Barnicle
PS. We were going to bring Bono along, too, but he's busy trying to avoid Diana Ross since he lifted the "Set me free why don't ya babe" riff for that new U2 song!
I think, and I don't know how to find it, but somewhere there is this website that makes it easy for people to plagiarize and I suspect that some of them don't actually realize they're doing it. Based on what happened on thisfish.com a few months ago, when one of the blogs who was plagiarizing her finally "fessed up" they said they got the post from "some service" where you could get "customized posts" and content when you couldn't think of anything yourself. And that's where the changes come from (the apartment name and stuff.) But the chick who very ungraciously posted her "apology" did not list where said service was. If someone were to actually have the time and energy, looking up said service which is apparently helping spread this vile plagiarism bug and getting them destroyed would be the thing to do.
I'm guessing that's where Stephanie found the culprit.
Although it does amaze me that people feel the need to plagiarize blogs. They're personal journals people. If you have no life, don't steal someone else's! It's more than pathetic.
Looks like it's been taken down. Thats what they get for being an asshat.
hedgie
looks like that weiner lost his website. good job !
NED
Plagerism? Yeah, I guess it would qualify, but lets get real here. This isn't a published thesis dealing with fascist Italy during World War II?? c'mon people. This is a BLOG for crying out loud with a readership of a solid 25 people (really probably about 10 when you eliminate stephanie's friends and family members). So what's the big deal ??????
You are a fucking dick. If you wrote anything that anyone cared about, you would understand. Plagerism isn't about how much money you are making or losing you fucking tool. It's almost more understandable if it were poetry or literature. In this case, we read Stephanie's life on this website, and it's a far more personal theft, when someone takes your thoughts and presents them as their own. Bottom line, you clearly don't understand because you are an angry asshole. Drop dead. Go to a different website because we are all fucking tired of you.
For the record, this site gets like 3000 unique visitors a week or something outrqageous like that. Stephanie is working on a real book deal, and is frequently paid for writing, photographing, and designing. And go fuck yourself.
I'm with anonymouse in intent, but good God…could we make the response a bit more subtle?
NED
I like you anonymouse…you're cute, fun and frisky. Does stephanie have you on her payroll (if not, she should)…or are you just one of her butt buddies ?
un homme
I am with Robotnik. It's a new month, and wiggin' out and overreacting aren't the fashion. Were they ever? And weren't these themes already covered in two earlier posts?
There is little doubt that Stephanie will be much more famous than she is now on account of her writing, but there is a good possibility that an equal fame will come from the effect she has had on the lives of her readers. She can be quite inspirational. I am sure we only see half the story; the other half is offline, and it may take some time before we read about it. It's worth the wait, especially if you appreciated the movie "Garden State." Don't sell her short, and I hope she won't do the same to herself.
People always say that "ah plagiariasm isn't a big deal, it's not making money or anything." But it IS a big deal. It's easy to understand, though, when you mention something like say, Microsoft. If someone went in and sold a bunch of software they had copied from Microsoft, say especially back in the old days when they were just getting started, and claimed it as theirs, and made money that Microsoft didn't make, then you'd realize it was theft. Theft is theft– ideas are intellectual property and they, whether or not they make money, belong to the person who wrote them. It IS a big deal. It's not cute, or funny, or something that someone should "lighten up" about.
Especially for writers, who don't make that freakin' much off their work anyway. The rare few who do make money wouldn't stand still to let some yutz claim the ideas they came up with, so it's totally right for people to get pissed when someone plagiarizes a blog. And then the fact that the person is stealing personal experiences is very Single White Female. Creepy and stalker-ish. Get yer own life.
Writing is personal. Words, when they come out of people with passion mean something. They mean something to the writer and in different ways mean something to the people that read them. They have weight and in the case of blogging, they are unique. Whereas if you were to show me 20 papers about fascist Europe during WWII they would almost all be fundamentally the same. Stealing words from a writer is wrong. Minimalizing it is worse.
The offender seems to be gone from the Blog World, making the cyber air cleaner for the rest of us.

Ned guy seems like the bad guy in a wrestling match. A villain who relishes in antagonizing the crowd. Gets his jollies off being the guy who is controversial because he can't cut it but being conventional. He probably wears all sorts of really political left wing buttons, radical stuff, wears what he thinks is avante clothes and is anti-establishment, tries to be cool by being different and probably weighs either about120 or 900 pounds.

Wah seh ur blog hor very nice to read one leh! i think hor you r very the good lor when it come to the writing one leh! very good ah you, must keep up your good work leh! i salute you 1 eh, dont play play ah! jia you!
I like your comment to him. His blog name speaks volumes. What did Chubby Checker once sing? "How low can you go?"
I am getting involved. What a dick.

However, that defense will not work in this case.

Serves you right
I hate Jayson Blair–although he did single-handedly take down Howell Raines–a 1st class swine. Some good came out of the shakedown.
She's copied more than one– just scroll down.
Oooh, yeah. Been there.
All you have to do is email Blogger. They'll take them down.

And to find out if you've been plagiarized, you use this search engine: http://www.copyscape.com/
I'm guessing that's where Stephanie found the culprit.

Thanks for the info, Kim. I was wondering if there was such a service or if stephanie actually had enough time to google lines of her own text!
you should check his site now. what the fuck is he talking about?
I'm sure this whole thing has done wonders for his site counter…
Seriously though, sorry to read about the blog pirating.
Brian: bwa-hahahaha. Don't forget Stephen Ambrose…oh yea, he's dead. Ah well…

Hi. I'm Jenn and the person who runs that Crank Yankers site. Just wanted to thank you for the link. Thanks!
What a dork! And now he thinks he can remedy this by brown-nosing?!?
Tsk tsk.
