  1. Stephanie,
You have quickly become my favorite blog to read. Perhaps it's because I share your nomad ways and your altruistic way of viewing the world. None the less your insight is that of the emerging single gal in the city who can take care of herself but, at the same time is trying to find the correct path and partner.

"the leading ladies borrow men to extinguish the heartburn of expectation.

  2. I liked this one a lot, but I don't know why. My comments are limited to the assumptions contained in your creative nonfiction/blog. Hopefully you check the "help me I'm single" or the "I need a man" routine at the door when you actually are out there on a date or something. I can tell you that I'd run fast and far from someone that was obsessed with all of it as you seem to be. Also, stop wasting your time trying to lock someone in who's not lockable.

  3. Hahaha. This post is a prime example of why Greek Tragedy is my favorite blog.

Now, about this Picture Perfect movie. Wasn't Kate Mosley the name of the female lead in The Cutting Edge, too?

  4. Now dig sky, you should run cold upside down his head.

So cool a point you made, I had to respond in jive just to try to approach your level of coolness.

  5. I am starting to feel that every movie is a remake of another. It's the same old story over and over again with a different spin on it. Split personalities and girls trying to make other guys jealous is all I feel like I'm seeing. And what is up with these stories about "players" who date and sleep with "average" girls and then miraculously change and fall in love with only for the most gorgeous girl in the movie.

Stephanie can you please give those writers some ideas? We need something new!

  6. The way you creatively craft words Stephanie, you should be a (paid) published author.

I'm (surprise) happy to give you my thoughts on this subject but first an aside.

Not too long ago I heard an essay on NPR by a single women decrying the fact that in her 20's the single table was fun at weddings, but now in her 30's it's just a "dumping ground". True in someways if you think about.

Anyway I advise take one for the team and go stag if you must rather than inflict a Gino on the other attendees. Think of the greater good and also happy Valentine's Day my dear.

  7. Wingwomen! Too funny. My friends and I have a concept to which we refer as "springboard value". That is: hanging with our female friends or relatives (all of whom are attractive and fun) is a good "springboard" to meeting attractive single females; the more attractive the "wingwomen" are and the more fun they are, the higher the springboard value. The girls laugh at us when we talk about it, but they know it's true!

    "Oh, she's your COUSIN?"

    Booooooiiinnngg!

Figures someone would turn it into a business…

  8. Yes, does art imitate life or does life imitate art? And if one is quite poopy at times, then what is the other?

  9. if a movie was ever based off this entry it'd have to be titled "Going Gino". I let out a loud HAAAAA when I read that. He makes it seem like "where's your date" would be a lot better than "this is your date?".

  10. Just go alone. The energy you spend agonizing over it could be spent more productively feeling good and meeting new people. It's not the prom. No one knows your invite said "and guest," except the bride, and believe me her mind is on other things.

  11. I say go alone. Grin and bear it through the ceremony (hey — you could be stuck wearing some dress that someone ELSE picked out)… then be the life of the party at the reception. Approach and meet everyone there, especially the ones you don't know. Make a game and try to find out something you have in common with each of them. They'll be so bedazzled they'll hardly noticed you don't have some stud leading you around by a leash… they'll only notice lovely little you! [this sounds fun — can I go in your place??]

  12. I think some people missed the point of this post…this was about the past.

  13. Yes, this happened a long time ago. However, hopefully the next wedding I'm invited to will have two names on the invite. I'll have a real date, you know, like a boyfriend or something.

    sigh.

  14. Just catchin' up, anon. Been doing my typical overanalysis. I may just be our heroine's biggest supporter from afar. At times, my favorite blog is painful for me to read for selfish reasons. I found myself needing some air. Some introspection of my own. A reality check I sorely needed. Harsh reality, but I'm OK now. Ready to resume my aforementioned role.

  15. When you wrote elephant riding a tricycle i harkened back to a song i never understood.
