movies to see in 2015

While, yes, without apology, I’m undeniably waiting for the return of The Bachelorette on May 18, I’m also currently enjoying a new, sure to be favorite, show titled, “HAPPYish” on Showtime. Despite its mixed reviews, I feel as if this balls-out mama (Katherine Hahn) is my outspoken soul sister. We’ll see.

Movies I’m looking forward to seeing this year…

Boy Meets Girl Movie

Boy Meets Girl
Especially after that Bruce Jenner interview—not to mention how much I adore Eric Schaeffer’s work (If Lucy Fell, in particular)—I’m definitely seeing Boy Meets Girl tonight. A ground-breaking coming-of-age romantic comedy, the film explores how falling in love transcends gender and how important it is to live a courageous life without fear standing in the way of your dreams. I forced my sister to watch this, despite her insistence that it wasn’t her thing. When we finished viewing the film, both of us in tears, she said, “That was so worth it. I’m so glad you made me watch that.”

Meryl Streep in Florence Foster Jenkins

Florence Foster Jenkins
The story of Florence Foster Jenkins, a New York heiress, who dreamed of becoming an opera singer, despite having a terrible singing voice (Meryl Streep, Hugh Grant).

Fan Girl
A 15-year-old girl decides to bring her two passions together for her final film project: making movies and her favorite band. (Meg Ryan, Kiernan Shipka)

Ithaca
Fourteen-year-old Homer Macauley is determined to be the best and fastest bicycle telegraph messenger anyone has ever seen. His older brother has gone to war, leaving Homer to look after his widowed mother, his older sister and his 4-year-old brother, Ulysses. And so it is that as spring turns to summer, 1942, Homer Macauley delivers messages of love, hope, pain… and death… to the good people of Ithaca. And Homer Macauley will grapple with one message that will change him forever. Based on Pulitzer Prize-winning author William Saroyan’s 1943 novel, The Human Comedy, ITHACA is a coming-of-age story about the exuberance of youth, the abruptness of change, the sweetness of life, the sting of death, and the sheer goodness that lives in each and every one of us. (Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan, Sam Shepard)

Let It Snow The Movie!

Let It Snow (The Most Wonderful Time)
A comedy centered on one family’s chaotic Christmas season. With Diane Keaton, Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde, Marisa Tomei. Oh, I wish I could have a viewing party of this film. Diane Keaton AND Christmas… The Family Stone double feature anyone?

While I’m waiting for these to release, I’ll be hitting up Netflix for these films, on my watchlist:

The One I Love

The One I Love (Streaming on Netflix)
Struggling with a marriage on the brink of falling apart, a couple escapes for a weekend in pursuit of their better selves, only to discover an unusual dilemma that awaits them.

Girl Rising: The Movie

Girl Rising (Streaming on Netflix)
Nine filmmakers each profile a young girl from a different part of the world to weave a global tapestry of youth in the 21st century. I feel like this is going to be a powerful film that puts things into perspective for those times when we feel like we need to keep up with the Joneses. You’re not what you’ve got! I feel like this is going to be a great film to watch for anyone who’s been pulling out the boo-hoo card lately.

The Women on the 6th Floor (Streaming on Netflix – Foreign)
When their maid unceremoniously quits, stodgy French businessman Jean-Louis and his socialite wife replace her with a vivacious Spanish lass. This film is such a delight! It’s charming and interesting, and you don’t want it to end. It’s also unpredictable. I love in each scene how I don’t know what will happen next. You’ll want to savor the joy in each scene! I love this movie! LOVE!

As a Netflix #StreamTeam member, I receive a complimentary subscription to Netflix in exchange for sharing 1 post each month about Netflix movies and TV Shows, though I often share more often because, let’s face it, I own the verb “overshare.” As always, all opinions are mine, though you’re welcome to agree with me.
