Nope. I don’t mean home-video footage of me as Moose. On my last trip out to Los Angeles (about which I promised to write, eventually), I had some meetings. Because that’s what people in LA do. They don’t have meetings; they take meetings, where they’re likely to say, "Have you considered… well, okay, so here’s the bad pitch…" This is Hollywood-speak for, "Let me give you an idea without you thinking my ego is at play here." I didn’t have any of those meetings. There were no bad pitch ideas tossed around this time.
I met with producers who are interested in turning Moose into a feature film! And guess who’s working on writing the screenplay now? Moose, herself. THAT is what I’m up to these days. You know, aside from gearing up for TV pilot season (I’m developing a new series!)*, entertaining thoughts and a proposal for my next book, going to couples therapy, raising hops into Beers, and doing a major site redesign. Yes, there’s a lot to do… which means you can look forward to posts on bedding. On material possessions. On interior design. Know why?
Because I can’t really write about what I’m writing. And because that’s the shit I do to escape. I try to build a world of pretty, airy, and clean, complete with tufted throw pillows of procrastination. I don’t post images of bedrooms because I think "Wow, people will absolutely want to see this fabric." I do it because that’s where my mind is… in cupcakes, in wall art, and 10,000 cups of coffee. In Rent songs, in menus, in Moose Tracks ice cream. Thank you for entertaining my randomness. Now, hurry up and nab up your paperback copy of Moose

Jenna Elfman is an insane Scientologist (far gone down the rabbit hole..gawker.com had a great story on one of her unprovoked outbursts I think.. batshit. And Alyssa Milano.. wow. Ok. I guess in the recession studios are going with the known names but um, budget scale. It's funny but the news is still good enough it doesn't much matter!
Stephanie, I just re-read your "working in the advertising business" blog where you showed your Shops at Columbus Circle ad campaign idea, which, by the way, I LOVE. Out of curiousity, I went to their web site to see what they were doing. It appears as though they are using YOUR idea. Have you seen it?

Yes, we love to love Lauren Ambrose, don't we? Just needs to be someone who can pull off playing a high school girl. I had to do the whole "who will play you?" game with Straight Up and Dirty, and it came down to Alyssa Milano and Jenna Elfman, since they were both "studio-approved." In the end, it's up to a whole lotta people. What I've learned, though, is that they rarely go with a no-name talent, however brilliant they may be. Because you fill seats with a name.

I loved Moose and would be first in line (with a bathtub-sized vat of popcorn) to see in on the big screen. Congrats to you on all these accomplishments and developments. As a former fat girl (who now looks totally hot and fabulous, just like you!), I feel as though you and I would be great friends in real life. Absolutely include the scenes where you discuss your teenage hormones and sexuality. I think that to me was the most shocking yet the most real part of the book and made it not just another coming-of-age story. I think what you really hit on and what people respond to is that whether its weight, acne, height, skin color, religion, socioeconomic status… whatever… everyone goes through trials like this as a kid and it really really does shape who you become. Oh and the parental influence I thought was also really important to the story you told.

Ever since you mentioned that you had exciting news upon returning from your LA trip, I have been waiting for you to reveal it. I was expecting news on the TV series so it is a pleasant surprise to hear about the Moose movie…Although, I'm still hoping for the TV series too. One of the many things that I love about your blog is your understanding of human behavior and how relationships are never 'random' (as in "why do I always attract such __{insert prototypical male subdivision here}__). I imagine that a lot of this understanding is a product of your SUAD phone therapy, and I was looking forward to seeing it all brought to life in the series. I imagined that the SUAD series would be vastly different from what is typically presented to female audiences, so I am a bit dismayed that it was not ordered…Nonetheless, I look forward to the Moose movie (and all of the upcoming posts on material possessions!)…Congratulations!

Congrats! I am very happy for you. I must admit, I have not read Moose…yet. After reading the downloadable snippet the other day, I knew that I'd be purchasing it with my weekly Border's Reward coupon. I initially wasn't pressed about getting it because my weight has always been rather manageable. I thought it was a good subject because lots of people in my life have struggled with weight issues since childhood, but I just didn't think I could relate much. However, after reading those few pages, I was hooked. I was right there with you. Weight may not have been my issue, but I had other issues and they made me feel the exact same way. I guess it's all interchangeable, weight-acne-shyness…I could go on and on. The end result is the same, making the book relevant to everyone. Kudos to you.

This is so exciting! I just read moose and I loved it! I think the bits with Fran were hilarious. Also the image of seven year olds pounding apple cider vinegar before meals with their counselor was appallingly funny. You were just so frank and open about yourself and your experiences, I hope it translates on screen. I was an overweight kid too so this really spoke to me, and I really hope that this works out!!
