love sweet love

I recently attended the wedding of one of my dearest friends.  Sweetest friends, really.  Everyone who meets her describes her as just that, “what a sweet girl.”  She never has anything mean to say about anyone, so it amazes me that she’s had a seat beside me for as long as she has, given my mantra since high school had been “if you have nothing nice to say, come sit by me.”  But I’m learning that I’m actually not like that anymore.  I worried nice meant boring, but my dear friend changed all that. She’s a classic bowl of French Vanilla and I love her that way.  And so does he, her groom, the man I introduced to my friend one night in a busy bar.  Seems she had to kiss a few frogs before she stumbled upon her prince.  Congratulations to the adorable couple.

  1. Wow, what an incredibly beautiful wedding!!! Gorgeous location, you look so happy… I love the idea of these "destination weddings", just wish I could afford to go when my friends call up and say, "Hey, want to come to Bali?"

Thanks for sharing with us! We can live vicariously through you :-)

  2. That looks so beautiful. What a nice wedding. I loved the starfish place cards. And you don't look fat! You looked very pretty in the pictures. How was the food in the Dominican Republic? I have to know about the food.

  3. Beautiful pictures… and a lovely first appearance of your ring in the pic with you and the bride! Congratulations!

  4. I use to be one of those 'come sit by me' girls. It still rears its ugly head every now and again. And I get really mad at myself. Embarrassed. Ashamed. It's a horrible way to be.

    Who hasn't had a frog?

  5. I don't think I'm a fan of destination weddings. While I think it would be cool to have all our friends on holiday with us, I'm more a fan of inviting every single person we know to a NY wedding.

  6. Beautiful wedding all around. I love destination weddings. They really allow you to have fun, relax and enjoy the things that matter the most.

Great tan! You reminded how badly I need to even mine out.

  7. Do you mind me asking at which resort the wedding took place? We're shopping around for honeymoon locations, and we've narrowed the list down to Mexico, Jamaica, Antigua and Dominican Republic. I've been to Paradisus at Punta Cana and loved it, but I'd like to try somewhere different.

  8. Awesome pictures!! Gotta love the frogs ;) The bride looks stunning. Congrats to [the couple]. They look very happy, as do you! I agree with Wendy above, thanks for sharing with us. I love living vicariously thru you!

  9. Stephanie, thanks for sharing the lovely photos. I remember the bride from other photos you've shared of your friends, and she always struck me as so serene and composed-looking. Classy and sweet indeed. =) Wishing her much happiness and beautiful days.

  10. Stephanie, the pictures are lovely. The couple looks genuinely happy. And you look amazing! Really, truly! You radiate happiness, right along with the *Sweet Girl*!

Ok, Buffy … I think I am beginning to become one of those 'come sit by me' girls. I am going to reject it in full force. Because it is a horrible way to be.

  11. This one is for Rachel. I had the most perfectly beautiful honeymoon this past November at a place called The Caves outside of Negril, Jamaica. It was perfect in every possible way -quiet, romantic, non-touristy and the food was really, really good, which is important to me. When I came back I wanted to tell everyone I met to go there. You can email me if you want more information. I dont want to take up Stephanie's comment space any more.

  12. Ok, I'm gonna start by saying something harsh. It's nice to see a picture of a black person in your roll!

Now, since I was harsh and you just wrote a post about nice people, I'm going to follow it up by saying something nice. And true. Your expressioin in picture 131 is very fun and genuine. You look like you're having a marvelous time.

  13. For goodness sake – stay out of the sun! You can't reverse sun damage. Saying no to a carb now and then might not hurt either.

  14. I really adore the frog picture. Am just getting into a photog class. I aspire!

  15. I always wanted to be a girl like that. Lovely and sweet. But I always forget to bite my tongue and there the little remarks go again….

You are gaining writing power again Steph. I guess you have adjusted to the new life in Austin.

  16. Your photography is beautiful! How do you get the colors so saturated? The colors seem to "POP"
Are you using a filter? digital camera? special lens? any feedback would be very appreciated.

  17. Wow, I agree Kiki..that -was- a very harsh thing to say. The implications of that statement sure do not do much for me. Most especially when I see pictures of Stephanie's life and her friends, and there is blatantly obvious racial diversification in all of them. If I were Stephanie, I would be clamoring for an apology. What an incredibly judgemental statement for you to make.

I guess it is a good thing I am not Stephanie then.

  18. Gorgeous images, lovely people. Amorous amphibians. Sigh. With all the horrific things in the news every day, it's good to be reminded about the beauty in the world. Thanks, Stephanie, and cheers to the bride and groom.

  19. What lovely photos! I winced when I saw the sunburn, but it's so nice to see current pictures of you on the site. It's been awhile. And I LOVE your engagement ring! I want a close-up!

  20. I use a lot of different lenses. I bought most of them used when I was first starting out. I use telephoto lenses 70-300, but I mostly use a fixed focal length 100 macro and a fixed 35. As for color correction, I use photoshop, mostly, to color correct. On some of the photos with the darker edges I used a "lomo-ize" filter I found as a free download somewhere. But you need photoshop to use it. The real photoshop, not some mini version of it. Good luck.

  21. Stephanie, I am with Beth above, can you reveal what type of lens you use or anything? I read you use a Nikon D100, but with telephoto lens or macro lens?? I'm just starting to take a digital photography class and your pictures are amazing! You are aspiring me and I thank you for that!

  22. Pretty in pink's not here. It's there. Patiently awaiting US photogcolor jacket. Glorious galley. Same script sans shoes. Beat Amazon. Fone a friend in the business of words which could only be said by our girl. C'est zee beSTEPHANIE. Mazel Tov!!!

  23. Kir:
This post was so happy and lovely…even the comments were going well. Thanks for being a total dick and ruining the vibe.

  24. I don't remember seeing any black people in any of the galleries either up until now either. Just an observation, not a critism.

  25. For Kiki-I didn't actually focus on how many blacks, asians, whites, etc. were in the photos, since that doesn't really matter much to me, but it's not like Steph is making up the invitation list. Plus, if you if go to a black wedding, you'd probably notice that most of the guests are black. It's not good or bad, it's just what it is.

For Kir-Personally, I try to stay out of the sun, but there is a school of thought out there that exposure to the sun, in a moderate amount, and WITHOUT sun tan lotion, is healthier for you than slathering an unnatural lotions all over your body. I'd wear a hat, but still, I'd be willing to bet that the skin cancer rate in Africa is lower than that of the US. And you know what? When you die, no matter how perfect your skin is, you don't get to take it with you.

And Steph has already, with some frequency, acknowledged that she could lose a few pounds, as could most of America. Do you tell everyone you meet to stay away from the carbs?

  26. I love the Sivory! It is the most amazing resort. Very private and chill. My boyfriend and I have considered making it a yearly tradition. I think it would be the perfect place for a wedding.

  27. I know who that frog is that she had to kiss – he most certainly didn't deserve her. I'm so glad that she's found someone that does.

  28. have JUST finished your book….i loved it. it is so what happened to me this year!! i have met an amazing man on match, whom i love with all my heart.
glad to be rid of cheating husband. best wishes. x
